Natural habitat is a series of photographs made in the first week of March in Egypt; about consumerist tourism, by a consumerist tourist.
Set in Barcelona's main beach, "Barceloneta" is a visual exploration of confrontation.
Like day and night, and at times clashing like land and sea, those who spend their time on the beach in Spain's most visited city could hardly be more diverse. Some people visit the beach in search of leisure, others hustle to make ends meet; during the day, the atmosphere is quaint and lively. As hours go by, the scenery changes, and a different reality is left behind: many have nowhere else to go during the night, many call "Barceloneta" home.
While roaming the beach-side community time and time again, my photography began to be taken in a friendlier manner, but the trajectory for putting this series together was defined by my role as an observer being met in an ever-changing fashion. Sometimes accepted immediately and others through much interaction, reactions to my presence and that of my camera ranged from hostility to familiarity, and the many stages in between.
